The Old Jail House

I have a little obsession with old buildings. Generally the further in disrepair the better.
The Old Jail House opposite Midway Beach and next to the Olympic Pools is a perfect example of one of the many amazing buildings in Gisborne that are being left to rot. I'm aware that its a dump, but in my opinion history needs to be preserved. It is a registered historical building but I'm not sure if that really means anything to the local community, a building with such history should be celebrated rather than ignored. By leaving it to the elements and the salty sea air it is slowing crumbling to the ground and will eventually become such an eyesore (by some standards) that I am certain it will be bulldozered. Slowly but steadily Gisborne will be covered in kit set homes and office buildings disguising the beauty of our landscape and our rich history. I am hopeful that some enterprising soul will see the potential of the beautiful Old Jail House and turn it into something deserving of its historical importance. Just please not another Jail House.
